Empowering Youth Through Mentorship Programs

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Licking and Perry counties is dedicated to empowering youth through their mentorship programs. By pairing adult mentors with young individuals, they provide support, guidance, and a positive role model for children in need. These mentorship programs aim to inspire, motivate, and empower youth to reach their full potential.

Through one-on-one mentoring relationships, BBBSLP helps children develop essential life skills, improve their self-esteem, and build healthy relationships. Success Stories of Matches in the Program

BBBSLP has witnessed numerous success stories through their mentorship program. These success stories highlight the positive outcomes that result from the dedicated efforts of mentors and mentees.

One such success story involves Big Brother Jake and Little Brother Ray, who have formed a strong bond over the past three years as Lunch Buddies. Their journey began when Ray was in the 4th grade at Ben Franklin Elementary, and their friendship continued seamlessly when Ray moved on to Heritage Middle School. Despite Jake's busy schedule at Denison University, he has always made time for Ray. They enjoy their time together, engaging in conversations, playing games, and hitting the gym. Jake has been a significant influence on Ray, supporting him in maintaining good grades, improving his fitness, and fostering a love for learning. The joy on Ray's face when Jake visits is a testament to the positive impact mentorship can have on a child's life.

Another success story involves Little Sister Camryn and Big Sister Darah, who were matched in the community-based program. They've enjoyed various activities together, including Chuck E. Cheese, the Columbus Zoo, trick-or-treating, roller skating, and attending a Newark Football game. Darah initially involved Camryn in a soccer camp and helped her join a basketball team at the YMCA. Darah's support extends to Camryn's education and activities, including attending her performances at The Midland Theater and her soccer and basketball games. Darah integrates Camryn into her family's activities, like cookouts, birthdays, and swim parties. Camryn's mom appreciates how well Camryn fits in with Darah's family and notes that the match has given Camryn a new friend. Darah finds the best part of being a Big Sister is simply being there for Camryn, seeing her smile, and finding the experience rewarding.
